Musicians Year 2 is a continuation of Musicians Year 1. If your child did not complete Musicians Year 1, but is at least 5 ½, they may join Musicians Year 2 because there is enough review built into the first weeks to allow your child to succeed.

Between the ages of 4 ½ and 7 years, your budding musician learns best by being actively engaged in making music. However, play remains the primary way that this age group learns.

Through playful, engaging musical activities your child will continue to discover the joy of reading music and playing songs on his instruments. Your child will continue to play his glockenspiel and build upon what he learned last year. Additionally, he will begin learning to play the dulcimer and an Appalachian string instrument in the fall, and he will begin learning to play the recorder in the spring. What fun is in store!!

The learning continues in other areas such as the study of famous composers; different forms of dance and dance music such as ballet, tap, and jazz; folk music; and instruments from around the world. He will add to his musical vocabulary of musical concepts and symbols, and will increase his expertise of playing in a musical ensemble.

You will be a proud parent when your child graduates at the end of Musicians Year 2 and is ready for more formal musical experiences! And, you will be confident that you have given your child the very best possible start to his life-long love of music.

“All three of our boys have thoroughly enjoyed the Kindermusik program. Their time in Level 5 laid the foundation for music classes they have taken since graduating from the program and we know the music theory and information they learned will continue to be invaluable to not only their music education, but to their education as a whole.

Our third son has one more year in the program and we will be sad when we no longer get to participate in Kindermusik.

"We love Kindermusik! The musical activities build self-confidence, are fun for the child, and provide wonderful bonding time. We have made new friends and my children have loved coming every week to sing, dance, and play instruments. Our older children are Kindermusik graduates and have built a strong musical foundation for a lifetime of musical enjoyment. My younger daughter is enjoying coming every week and will graduate in two years. Our family has many wonderful memories of Kindermusik and the memories are still being made. We highly recommend Kindermusik!"

What Will My Child Experience in a Kindermusik Class?

  • Singing and Vocal Development

Many children become accurate singers between 4 ½ and 7 years and realize their first “instrument” as their own voice. Your child will delight in singing songs that were chosen to enhance his ability to match pitches.

  • Instrument Play

During the second year of Kindermusik for the Young Child, your child continues to play the glockenspiel, and will be very excited to learn to play the dulcimer and the recorder. By the end of the second year, your child will have had experience playing percussion, wind, and string instruments.

  • Music Reading

Your child will continue to be challenged gently to increase his note reading vocabulary. By the end of the second year, he will have a good understanding of the staff and notes, and he will be able to read the notes of the C Major scale.

  • Movement

Experts agree that movement is essential for learning. Therefore, in the second year, your child will continue to experience musical concepts through fun and social movement activities that will help him gather the wherewithal for internalizing music. In turn, this wherewithal will provide a direct foundation for the formal musical instruction he will experience after Kindermusik as the next step in his musical education.

  • Composing

During the second year, your child will have opportunity to continue to express himself by writing short melodies.

  • Sharing Time

Research shows that children learn best from someone they have a strong emotional connection to. Therefore, you are asked to join your child’s class for the last ten minutes of each week to share in a musical activity with your child and to learn how to best help your child continue his musical learning at home during the week.

  • Learning Continues At Home

The home materials consist of a glockenspiel, a recorder, a dulcimer, a purple carrying bag, a folder with all of the homework and music, attendance stickers, a games bag for small manipulatives, a CD of all the music we play and sing in class, a songbook and weekly parent cards. With the home materials, the learning continues at home with your child’s best teacher—you!

"We have been a part of the College Station/Bryan Kindermusik family for eight years. The studio is a true asset to this community. Both of my children have benefited tremendously from the program and instruction provided by Shirley Boening and her staff.

I cannot imagine our younger years without the music appreciation guided by the Kindermusik experience at this outstanding studio. Mrs. Shirley and all teachers here go above and beyond to share music with each individual child."
